What is Acne Scar?
Acne scars are caused when the skin pores are blocked. This blocking results in pores swelling and after some time, it results in follicle wall breakage. It creates shallow or deep lesions, which appear on the skin, prominently. Basically, acne starts are resulted from inflamed lesions. Unfortunately, these lesions damage the tissue beneath the skin, as they penetrate through the skin. After this entire process and healing, pit or mark is left behind.
Acne scars of many kinds like rolling scars, boxed scars, icepick scars and hypertrophic scars.
Acne Scar Treatments and Procedures
Since the acne scars occur and stand stubborn, it is difficult to treat and varied treatments are required. There are various treatments required, such as laser resurfacing, soft tissue fillers, dermabration, chemical peeling, etc.
Soft Tissue Fillers
The skin is attempted to stretch by injecting fat or collagen into the indented scars and under the skin. Eventually, the scars will be less noticed. Repetition of these injections is necessary, as the results of these injections are temporary.
The top layer of the skin is removed by applying high-potency acid and deeper scars are then minimized.
Energy Based Procedures
Radiofrequency devices and pulsed light sources are employed to treat the scars and make them less noticeable, with no damage or disturbance to the outer skin layer. This procedure needs to be repeated and the results are subtle.
Rolling or Needling
This procedure involves stimulating the underlying skin tissue by rolling a device, studded with needles. This procedure is simple, safe and effective also for treating acne scars. This treatment also should be repeated as the results are subtle.
The skin around the acne scars can be relaxed using the injections called Botox (Botulinum Toxin). Periodical repetition of these injections is needed for regular rejuvenation of the skin.
Surgery procedure involves cutting the individual acne scars and this procedure is called as punch excision minor procedure. Later the wounds are stitched or tightened with skin graft. Subcision is another technique that involves inserting the needles under the skin so that fibers under the scar can be loosened, by the doctor. This treatment is useful and it improves the overall appearance.
How It Is Done?
Different procedures have different ways of implementations. Every procedure is started with a pre-requisite that skin type is tested and based on the skin type appropriate and suitable procedure is recommended and performed. After completion of the procedure, respective post procedure care is taken. Most of these treatments are needed to repeat, because the results are short term and some procedures still yield better results.
Acne scar treatments have various benefits, majorly to get rid of the acne scars and most of the acne scars can be prevented by consuming healthy and nutrient food. However, if the acne scars are beyond control, one needs to consult doctor so that the problem will not be severe further.
